A little something about me.. I feel strongly about ethical/sustainable fashion! Clothing is arguably the greatest commodity in the world, playing a huge role in almost all of our lives?! Let’s face it, every single one of us wear clothes (7.125 billion of us to be exact). This gives fashion the power and unique ability to really make a difference to our world by combatting global inequalities! So my motto and what I stand by when I choose what to wear is ‘why not make a difference with the clothing we wear?’ By supporting ethical brands such as Synergy Clothing πΏ
Synergy makes clothing that combines sustainability with modern versatile and comfy styles, achieving clothing that not only looks good but is also kind to the earth π Their clothing is hand made in Nepal, in which supporting the Nepalise workers is fundamental to the brands ethos. They pay all employees a living wage and yearly bonuses, by doing so they are empowering a group of over 150 woman to rise out of poverty, giving them the opportunity to work from home and support their families. Helping to Combat the some what hidden yet proliferent gender inequalities that Β woman workers, in the Global South, so frequently face within informal sector employment. Most widely the garment industry, where woman make up about 70% of the workforce.
What’s more is that all of their clothing is made from Certified Organic Cotton and other eco-friendly fibers π Using these materials reduces pesticide usage, damage to fresh water resources, and lowers health risks for global farming communities. And from first hand experience, it also makes their clothing extremely soft and comfortable for every day wear π
Furthermore, they only use low impact dyes for all of their clothing, significantly decreasing their water pollution footprint. Doing their part to help combat industrial water population, as the World Band States: 17-20% of industrial water pollution comes from textile dying and treatment.
Here are a few examples of their ethical and sustainable clothing:
1. Coral Sloan jacket
2. Stripy Stella top:
